I have another friend whose family lived in SC for generations. He quoted James Louis Petigru of Charleston, South Carolina, as saying, “South Carolina is too small for a republic, but too large for an insane asylum.” He expressed this wildly unpopular opinion as SC voted to secede from the Union in December 1860. Funny, no?
I am a transplant here. And, not much unlike my 25 years in Maine, I will never be considered FROM this state or any other state. But, there are generational sympathies here.
I am closely watching the Alec Murdaugh trial. I grew up a few miles from the SC border in NC. My son lives in Charleston. I have frequently thought that SC is an insane asylum!
I completely agree with you! And, I live in SC.

Who knew CT wasn't one of the wealthiest, whitest states? I didn't. Thanks for the education, Maura!
Thank you for reading it, Jim!
Send this to Joe!
I’m sure he would change his mind!
What a fascinating thesis! Thanks always for your insightful and inciteful rants.
Thank you, Roberta! I love ranting with you in particular. ❤️
Does CT have a viable Republican Party? I remember Lowell Weicker, who I admired. But it seems the CT Republican Party has declined. True?
