Does it matter? Seriously, Maura? You, trained by my father to help people understand why any and every life matters, should not have to ask that question. IT MATTERS. YOUR STORY MATTERS.
I told my Dad earlier tonight that your book would be coming in the mail to his house. We were in his pre-chemo hospital room at the time. It was like he'd just been given a present. He was practically giddy, "Maura wrote a book?! I get to see it?! Will you read it to me, Mindy?!", etc. As if he could hardly believe he'd won the lottery.
A good reminder that we often will lash out at the people we are the closest to ,versus the people that we don’t know. As always they are there for us, even if it’s to act as a punching bag so that we can vent our frustration.
I believe they wrote a song, you always hurt the one you love…..
Congrats on the book and I know life can be frustrating at times but having someone you love to care for each other is the greatest of blessings! Looking forward to the book!
Oh Maura! That the process would be well over in 4 weeks... I hate to tell you but as we age, we heal slower and need to use more care as we go forward. How lucky I am that the only ones who had to experience my fury at being confined were my dogs and cats and not humans! Both knees twice and a total hip with ball and pin to replace the broken one... and now it is 4+ years later and there are days when I hurt like billy the devil! I hope Pete does way better and does his PT like ordered and you have longer patience than I ever would have! Can't wait for your book to hit my store where I ordered it and I know after reading you for many months that I will love it!
Your coming of age story is going to bring tears and laughter to all your readers.
And what a good reminder of how, even in a raging storm, something precious can emerge, especially when we choose to react with wonder and gratitude. That’s the spirit we need to embrace in these unmoored times.
It matters very much, and those of us who appreciate your incredible, authentic writing are eager to read it. Mazel tov! Huge accomplishment. Don’t let the current shitstorm squelch your book joy. You deserve celebration!
The Celts call The Holy Spirit “The Wild Goose”. She flew in the wind and the rain and delivered a bit of the joy that is at the center of creation for you and your beloved! I am filled with unspeakable joy for you!!
Thanks, Maura, for sharing such a special moment in your life. Bravo, courageous lady, and congratulations.
Not courageous, just a testy Irish woman! Thank you, Carole!

So true, Gerry! Y husband is patient, however. He knows my moods pass.

Congratulations! The book looks great! 😀
And I love reading about your relationship with Pete. Despite normal ups and downs, it sounds very sweet.
It’s very normal. And it is often sweet, especially as we age. Thank you, Deborah!
