Rockey, no idea. I certainly didn’t write your comment. Never would. I get in enough trouble with my own opinions!

Me too! Sorry, that was my sister. She didn’t realize it was putting my name on her comment, & I thought I was responding to her privately, but alas, I should know nothing is private. Feel free to delete my comment (I had tried to & don’t see it now). Thank you for writing your article. I Tweeted it out. Arlaine

Grrrrrrrrr. This is infuriating! Thank you for all the precedents and context. I’d had no idea the time limits were not a requirement.

Me, too. Opponents are reaping so many benefits from this misunderstanding. It's really an outrage.

Maura, I had no idea Biden was against this - why? What's the issue?

Here is the Biden Administration's brief: https://www.shatteringglass.org/_files/ugd/8fdaf1_afdbf60cf1514320a491354d056b1320.pdf

Starting at page 45, the administration says the deadline is valid and doesn't need to be tested by the court. Also said the plaintiffs didn't have standing to bring suit; that Article V in the Constitution allows the archivist to exercise judgment and does not force him to ignore a congressionally-imposed deadline; and also, "It is neither clear nor indisputable that the ERA has been ratified." My take: There is more money and power in keeping a boot on women's necks than ratifying the ERA. I am ripped.

Your take sounds completely right...and totally wrong. Come on, Joe.

Maura Casey, your article is EXCELLENT and ACCURATE! Thank you! The ERA will allow women to make reproductive decisions for themselves and decide if abortion is a choice for them. The ERA will save women’s right to bodily autonomy. The ERA is fully ratified. Biden needs to do his job and instruct his executive branch employee the archivist to do her job, or he could do an Executive Order. This could be a boon for Biden to do an Emancipation Proclamation for Women. Biden needs to stop fighting against women in court!

Thank you so much. I like the idea of an Emancipation Proclamation for Women! We appear to need one if this Supreme Court gets its way. Thank you for reading, and please feel free to share!
