I’m at a loss for words right now about how the Trump-Elon coup are dismantling our Constitutional rights. It’s soul-sucking how Republicans in Congress are choosing silence & complicity over the rule of law.
I'm 1/4 Canadian and I am so angry at him for treating the nicest people in the world like dirt. I've called my senator, Elizabeth Warren and halfway through the voicemail message, I broke down crying.
I'm Canadian. Born and raised. Living in the USA. And now I feel I am part of the enemy than is harming my people. Canadians are united in furry against Americans, and I am American too.
Thank you for this, and for sharing the beauty in your backyard!
I wouldn't blame Canadians for being angry at Americans. We give very little that is good to our neighbor. We are violent, crude and show little compassion. We elevate money above all else. Why would Canada like us? We give Canadians little reason to.
Bleak would be putting my mood lightly...heartbroken that he would attack Canada and all of my friends and acquaintances there...the best folks to go boating with in the world! Even more so I'm terrified over the idea that skunk now has all of our information, and I'm sure it has been downloaded on to servers of his for when he wants to pick which of us lives and who goes where...a coup without a whimper from anyone apparently... :(
I keep wondering if this is really what they want or are they just uneducated enough or too self involved to not see that if we keep on at this rate, it will all be over in a few weeks…we will be living in a full dictatorship.
Oh, Maura, just what I needed to read. You are exactly right. I love the photos.
For five years, in my first job as a publisher’s rep to bookstores, I had part of Canada as my territory. From Toronto to Halifax, some of the nicest people I’ve ever worked with. I used to daydream about moving to Montréal.
Will share this post as widely as I can, keep calling, emailing, writing.
My father worked with USAID on many projects in Africa and some in Indonesia. He had nothing but praise for them.
Tariffs...delayed for 30 days if T gets the adulation he craves from them. I have written and will write again. Mainly about the largest data breach ever by Musk and his raiders.
I, too, look for those serene moments. I know to shut my computer down by about 7 or I won't sleep from all the stupidities being perpetrated against our allies or against us, the citizens of this country.
Good rule to have. I am trying to read from a physical book in the evening. Much more relaxing. And to keep myself from looking at my phone if I wake up at 2 am, I have a tiny light that clips onto a book so I can read a little. It gives just enough light to read, which puts me to sleep in 5 minutes. In contrast, If I look at my phone I will toss and turn until 5 am!

I think of you all every day. It is going to be a long four years for the world. Looking like Elon is getting on the nose with Trump’s new heads of departments though - they had a sniffy meeting the other day. We will all stop buying Teslas and maybe he will implode?
I certainly hope so! I listened to the new PM of Canada. He mentioned Trump once and then laced his speech with what "Americans" are trying to do to Canada. I don't blame him; we should have gotten rid of this awful man once and for all, but instead, enough voters reelected him. Still, I have always loved Canada, and I hope they know that a lot of us are just as appalled as they are.
I am pacing myself through this fiasco. I fear that our democracy will be irreparably damaged, and it's not just Trump. It is the country that elected him. And the millions of Democrats who elected him by staying home and not voting.
The only conclusion is that those who voted for him want this. I'm not buying the line that they thought they were voting for a better economy. I'm not letting them off that easy with "low information" and "misinformation" bullshit. This is bigger than Trump. Much bigger. And, it's going to last longer than the next four years.
We have a new head of the DNC who says, "The gloves are off." Too little too late. Fascism has come to America and it's not going to leave. We'd better get used to the chaos and the destruction, just enough so that we can continue to resist and persist and obstruct and - to quote an expert - "fight, fight, fight".
I'm trying hard to find ways to take the energy of my outrage and anger and channel it into work with my local Indivisible Group. I'm in for the long haul. So, I'm pacing myself.
Thanks for the early morning picture of the Canada Geese. It helped. A lot.
Moments of peace are all around us...but they can be hard to see through the thick miasmic haze that's coming at us out of our nation's capital. Keep looking.
Thank you, Maura, for shining another light on the ignorance of our new administration. The fact that Musk apparently has free rein to do whatever he wants is so outrageous. A non-elected, non-American (is he even a citizen?) should NOT be running anything in our government, not even the trash collection!!
I worked on USAID-funded sustainability and coastal resilience projects when I was at URI and had the opportunity to travel to Ghana twice to help launch a couple of initiatives. For relatively small amounts of money people learn ways to fish sustainably and keep feeding their families without destroying habitats and fish populations. Women are given opportunities to earn their own money as fishmongers, oyster harvesters, etc. That means they don't have to farm their children out to work for criminals that exploit and often traffic them. The projects bring together local knowledge and outside technical expertise and make a lasting difference in people's lives. They aren't a giveaway. These projects employ people and give them the means to improve their lives. Think "teach a man to fish" rather than "give a man a fish." Destroying this agency is simply unAmerican.

It is amazing to see how many choose their jobs over the good of the country.

I am right there with you. They are wonderful, and such upright, good people. Trump is despicable.

Oh, I definitely don't blame my fellow Canadians. I may live here right now, but I am with my fellow countrymen. This is outrageous.
It's outrageous. Thanks, Maura, for articulating our outrage.
Lovely image of the geese
Miss you!

The GOP senators are so irresponsible. They could stop this. I am horrified.

Thank you, Suzette. I have traveled extensively in Canada. I love Canada and its people.
Yes. Thank you for your insights and inspiration to keep going.....

They should be angry. They have every right to be. They never invited this.

How about kissing someone IN Canada?
Nice try!
