I'm a good Anglican. Not either/or. It's both/and. Civics AND how to fight bullies. I got into a tangle on Substak with a bully earlier today - first time in a very long time. The more I engaged him - no matter what I said - the more exhilarated he became. He LOVED the attention, the engagement. I'm not sure what that means for broad application but it felt like an important observation about power dynamics.
No doubt. About 30 minutes into our ... exchange ... he could hardly contain his excitement when he posted on his page that "this dumb chick" was trolling him. I think I gave Mr. MAGA the thrill of his poor, pathetic life. He's been trying to re-engage with me - so Neanderthal, calling me "bitch," and "dumbass" and "creep" - but I've ignored him now for about 6 hours. It's fascinating.
I’m not sure but I’m not going to fall into the liberal trap of taking the blame for it. Some people are just not born with intelligence. Instead of inspiring them to do better the current administration’s attitude is to keep them right where they are and ensure their vote. It’s part of why we no longer have a Dept of Education.
Great column. I've often noticed how states, politicians and people who loudly proclaim they don't need and won't accept federal help do a quick turnaround the minute they get in trouble.
Many good groups working on this. Today is GOOD TROUBLE LIVES ON protest nationwide. John Lewis died on this date in 2020, and we gather in his name to stop this madness.
Maura, you are truly remarkable. You keep coming out with new life rafts......from so many different angles......something for everyone to grab on to......to get out of the deep doodoo...Thanks for keeping sharing with full force.
Maura, I knew Margaret Sullivan's column on threats against Adam Zyglis' for his provocative cartoon would light you up! America's divisiveness, mostly based on racism, ignorance, conspiracy theories, and mis/disinformation by right wing media, is a contagion for our democracy. I got up in the middle of the night a few months ago to search on organizations that bridge across divides. I made a list of 36, before going back to bed. I dreamed about what it might look like if they reached out to each other to co-create a national conversation. There are more compassionate people in America than cruel people. But the cruel ones are louder and in power.
I am ready! We need help organizing. Perhaps, Union organizers would be willing to help?
That's a great idea!

And no doubt your troll was anonymous?

What the hell is the MATTER with people!

If you organize, I’ll be right there with you.

Thank you!
Many of us are ready to organize. All we need is a leader?
Thank you. I agree.
