Being a fan of John Gottmann’s research...I find the ‘initial disliking’ fascinating...my parents met the same way..perhaps you proved organically that you knew how to manage conflict well..the biggest predictor of marital success...
What I have discovered about myself is this: If I have a strong aversion to someone, there is at least an off chance that we will become friends. I have no idea why this is, but it has been true throughout my lifetime.
We celebrated 50 years this summer. Our middle daughter made our 40th anniversary even more special when she chose it as her wedding day. As a retired Economics teacher, I love the Stock Market analogy! Congratulations on your essay and anniversary.
Sherry, congratulations to you and your lucky husband! And what a wonderful way to never forget your daughter’s wedding anniversary. On our 40th we arranged for a catered lunch in our barn with about 20 people. Close friends, family. It was lovely. Lucky us!
That does sound lovely. We had the two California daughters and their families join us in Ohio with our oldest daughter and her family. Three daughters, eight grandchildren, and plenty of love and laughter.
Beautifully told. I love the occasional dress store with the sympathetic shoppers and I see that brave but nervous girl shopping alone. This is so lovely Maura. Forty-one years up myself, where does it go?
Beautiful! The story, the bride, the dress, and Irene’s wisdom. In fact, I’m going to quote this to my son who is getting married next year. He works in banking and will appreciate the analogy!
This is wonderful. And you were so beautiful on your wedding day.
Thank you Cynthia. My husband told me he thought he was marrying an Irish princess. Only trouble was, he waited 25 years to tell me!
Here's to many more years of "uninterrupted marital bliss". Well done, you two. Well done.
And you, too, my friend! How many years now? 😬
For us? 47 years October 13. And they said it wouldn't last.
Maura -- this is beautiful, and an inspiration -- we are four years behind you!
Aw, thank you, Tim! It’s quite a ride, isn’t it?
Congratulations to you and Pete, Maura!
Thank you, Carolyn, and congrats to you and your honey! I know you have been together for a long time also.

That sounds perfect! A family celebration!
Nuptial Bliss!
I was tickled to celebrate with you and bask a bit in the warmth and pleasure shared so naturally with kith and kin.
We were so happy to have you, Alice!
Wonderful story!
No Bull! 40 years of deep wisdom and understanding and love. You made my eyes all watery again.
Aw, thank you, Roberta!
I haven’t a clue how it all went so fast! Good for us for hanging in there!

Congratulations — that's beautiful.
So beautiful...the words and the couple

Ha ha, yes, Holly, it sounded a little strange at first, but now that I am on the other side it rings true!
Men are strange creatures sometimes. But, better late than never
