Against odds, they kept marching

Of all the fictions told about American history, the statement “Women were given the vote,” rings among the most false. Women were rarely given anything, least of all the ballot, here or in other countries - some of which, like New Zealand (1893) Australia (1902), Finland (1906) or the United Kingdom (1918) passed women’s suffrage well before we did.
